Nikolai Kapustin composed 3 Impromptus Op. 66 in 1991. The first Impromptu is alternately declamatory and playful with frequent changes in mood and tempo. No. 2 ('Allegro meccanicamente') starts with a highly syncopated section which leads to a big main theme. The third piece is characterized by the three jazz improvisation sections that follow the opening theme.
